Bordeaux, an attractive destination and committed to sustainability

Thanks to its diversity of experiences and vibrant atmosphere, Bordeaux is a multi-faceted metropolis which is both attractive and committed to sustainability.

With a rich historical and cultural heritage dating from the 18th century and a cosmopolitan and epicurean population, the city lays claim to the largest UNESCO-listed urban perimeter. Located at the gateway to the South West and the Atlantic Ocean, the city is crossed by the River Garonne, which has shaped a magnificent landscape and fostered river tourism.

The region’s vineyard and wine culture is also present throughout the city (wine bars, wine schools, museums, merchants and micro-cellars, etc.). This human-sized city is always ready to welcome your events with open arms.

Bordeaux and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region are incubators of excellence in innovation and research. 11 competitiveness clusters and more than 60 clusters of international reach are located here, in sectors such as lasers, optics, aeronautics, oncology, neuroscience and more, which makes this destination an ideal venue for international congresses and fairs in a variety of fields.

Bordeaux is becoming a sustainable metropolis attentive to its ecological and social impact. With a global GDS index score of 78%, Bordeaux has entered the world Top 10 in 9th place out of 72 surveyed destinations. This Global Destination Sustainability Index includes more than 70 specific criteria, on aspects such as environmental performance, regional partner engagements and the implementation of a sustainable strategy for the destination in terms of tourism and event organisation.

This year, Bordeaux was also awarded the European Capital of Smart Tourism prize. This competition awards cities for outstanding achievements related to tourism in four areas: accessibility, sustainable development, digitalisation and cultural heritage & creativity.

These two indicators confirm Bordeaux’s engagements in terms of event organisation: to ensure a responsible event sector and uphold the legacy of professional encounters.
