HISTORICAL PROGRESS ON THE GDS-INDEX SUSTAINABLE BAROMETER

Bordeaux marks a strong progress for its third participation in the Global Destination Sustainability Index 2021 and joins the TOP10 World of the GDS-Index 2021, the main program for benchmarking destinations on their sustainable strategies, with nearly 70 participating destinations across the world.

The Global Destination Sustainability Index, the main program for benchmarking destinations on their sustainable strategies, disclosed its 2021 ranking. With an overall score of 78%, Bordeaux recorded a strong growth for its third participation (score of 54% in 2019 and 72% in 2020). The destination joins the TOP10 World of the GDS-Index 2021, obtaining the 9th place out of 72 audited destinations. The GDS-Index brings together more than 70 precise criteria, adding concrete evidence to evaluate the sustainable strategy of destinations and their achievements. A place obtained thanks to a notable progress on the sustainable strategy of the Bordeaux Tourism and Congress Office (+15 points compared to 2020), and the social performance of the destination (+ 10%), with stable results on environmental performance (+2 points) and partners commitment (-3 points). These results confirm the commitment of the Bordeaux Tourism and Congress Office and all local tourism partners to make the city an exemplary and recognized destination for sustainable tourism and events. A participatory approach has been launched to reflect and build together the future of urban tourism and event activity.
