HISTORICAL PROGRESS ON THE GDS-INDEX SUSTAINABLE BAROMETER

Bordeaux marks a strong progress for its third participation in the Global Destination Sustainability Index 2022 and joins the TOP5 World of the GDS-Index 2022, the main program for benchmarking destinations on their sustainable strategies, with more than 60 participating destinations across the world.

The Global Destination Sustainability Index, the main program for benchmarking destinations on their sustainable strategies, disclosed its 2022 ranking. With an overall score of 85%, Bordeaux recorded a strong growth for its third participation (score of 54% in 2019, 72% in 2020, and 78% in 2021). The destination joins the TOP5 World of the GDS-Index 2022, obtaining the 5th place out of 65 audited destinations. The GDS-Index brings together more than 70 precise criteria, adding concrete evidence to evaluate the sustainable strategy of destinations and their achievements. A place obtained thanks to a notable progress on partners commitment (+ 22% compared to 2021), and the social performance of the destination (+ 4%), with stable results on environmental performance (+ 1 points) and the sustainable strategy of the Bordeaux Tourism and Congress Office (+ 4 points). These results confirm the commitment of the Bordeaux Tourism and Congress Office and all local tourism partners to make the city an exemplary and recognized destination for sustainable tourism and events. A participatory approach has been launched to reflect and build together the future of urban tourism and event activity.
