Since the spring of 2022, we have observed a strong recovery in business tourism and professional events. We recorded hotel occupancy rates between 80% and 90% in June and September, which are traditionally the most successful months in Bordeaux, with an almost perfect balance between business tourism and leisure tourism. We have returned to pre-crisis levels or even slightly higher, considering that the metropolis has added about 1,500 more rooms since 2019.

For the conference sector, we have not yet reached the performance levels of 2019, but the gap is narrowing; we are less than 10 points behind, despite only having nine full months of activity. We have also noted a resurgence since September in bids for European and international conferences with more than 3,000 participants, a very good indicator of activity for the coming years!

In the corporate segment, activity has fully resumed and even increased compared to 2019. Hoteliers confirm a significant return of residential seminars since August.

The year 2023 promises strong activity, particularly with corporate events and conferences being confirmed every day, although we remain cautious about the organizers' hesitancy related to the energy crisis. We will adapt accordingly!

THE BUSINESS TOURISM OBSERVATORY

The business tourism observatory, led by the Bordeaux Convention Bureau, recorded 2,500 professional events in 2022, representing nearly 400,000 congress days. These results are 20% lower compared to 2019 but signify a strong recovery. Indeed, until the end of March 2022, MICE activity was almost at a standstill, but thanks to the consolidation of results over the entire year, we see that activity is on track to return to normal. Very promising event projects in the first half of 2023 also confirm this trend
