The Bordeaux tramway in constant evolution

Bordeaux Métropole continues its transformation to respond to the challenges of urban mobility, ecological transition, and heritage preservation. From May 2025, several large-scale construction sites will be launched in order to improve the efficiency of the transport network, facilitate soft mobility, and prepare the future of the Bordeaux tramway. These works, although temporary, are part of a long-term dynamic aiming to make Bordeaux a more fluid, sustainable, and welcoming metropolis.

Renovation of the Pont de Pierre

The Pont de Pierre enters renovation from May 5, 2025, for a duration of 52 months. This construction site aims to strengthen the structure while preserving its heritage character. During this period, the bridge will be closed to motorized traffic. Only pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use it, on a single side. Lianes 16 will be diverted via the Pont Saint-Jean.

Tramway: summer interruptions for modernization

The tramway network of Bordeaux Métropole is enriched with two new lines, lines E and F. This evolution aims to improve connections between the different areas of the metropolis, without creation of new tracks, by optimizing existing infrastructure.

  • Line E will connect Floirac Dravemont (terminus of line A) to Blanquefort Gare (terminus of line C), crossing the city center. It will offer a direct east-west connection without transfers, thus easing transversal travel.

  • Line F will allow a direct link between Saint-Jean train station and Mérignac airport, using sections of lines A and D. This simplified connection between city center, train station, and airport responds to a strong user demand and will contribute to strengthening the attractiveness of the destination.

In order to allow the interconnection of the lines and the commissioning of the necessary switches, works will be carried out around the Porte de Bourgogne station from June 2 to August 31, 2025. This modernization phase will lead to several temporary interruptions on the tramway network.

The planned disruptions are as follows:

  • Line A: cut between Sainte-Catherine and Stalingrad, as well as between Le Haillan Rostand and Mérignac Centre
  • Line C: interrupted between Quinconces and Villenave Pyrénées
  • Line D: interrupted between Quinconces and Carle Vernet

Shuttle buses will be put in place to ensure service continuity, with schedules equivalent to those of regular trams.
