Year in review 2023
Every six months, we publish the results of professional event activity through indicators of participation, audience, sector of activity and frequency. Some thirty sites respond to this barometer: convention and exhibition centers, event venues, hotels and universities.
Here are the results for 2023
2023 saw a return to normality in the business tourism sector:
All indicators were up, outstripping the figures for both 2022 and 2019, hinting at strong momentum for the years to come.
A 20.6% increase in activity levels compared with 2019:
The number of conference days and the accompanying economic impact increased by more than 20% compared with the figures for 2019. This growth was made possible by the major events hosted in Bordeaux in 2023, and the city’s investment in infrastructure capable of staging high-profile events on a large scale.
A 143% increase in the number of participants attending international events, compared with 2019:
2023 saw the return of major international events, highlighting Bordeaux’s ability to attract large-scale events of all kinds.
These results are the fruit of an intensive data-gathering operation involving 33 establishments and service providers who contribute to the Business Tourism Observatory, ensuring the solidity and reliability of our analysis.
In 2023 Bordeaux hosted the RoboCup, a stage of the Tour de France and several Rugby World Cup games. A dynamic sporting calendar which cemented the city’s reputation as a prime destination.
